Let me tell you a story about a delightful little kitty named Franco. Franco was rescued by his people parents when he was only about a week old and weighed about half a pound. He was full of fleas and had not opened his little eyes and was very, very hungry. The way it happened you know, was a man named Mr. Brian was at his office on a very hot July day, when he went outside and saw a mommy cat carrying all her little babies from underneath a shed outside. One baby she carried away in her mouth and then later she came back and carried out another baby, and so and so on for quite some time as she gathered her kittens one by one, and then she did not come back.
One does not know what exactly happened, but for some reason, there was one more little tiny baby kitty still waiting for the kitty mommy to come for him, but she never did come back. Poor baby kitty laid out in the sun on the hot cement waiting and waiting but still, kitty mommy never came. But it was okay, because Mr. Brian and Mrs. Claudine, the little old secretary at the office, had seen the whole thing. Mr. Brian and Mrs. Claudine waited just a little while longer only because they did not want to take a baby away from its mommy, but after a little while, seeing as the sun was shining so hot that summer day and the tiny baby kitty was still out in that sun all by himself, Mr. Brian and Mrs. Claudine decided they had better do something quick, and not wait any longer.
So out they went to pick up the baby kitty and brought him in the office where he would be safe. Mr. Brian called home and asked his wife to please call the vet because he was bringing home a new little baby kitten. He brought the kitty home and off they went to the vet where even though it was very obvious the little baby kitten needed to be fed and cleaned from all the fleas and his little kitty face washed, he was going to be okay. Soon after the little baby kitty was taken home, it was decided that little baby kitty would be called Franco.
Franco quickly became very comfortable in his new home, as he would ride around in his people mommy’s pockets, and drank out of kitty baby bottles, slept in people mommy’s hair or any other place he could find, and got to know the other cats in the house, who by the way, weren’t so sure they were happy about a new addition to the family.
Franco was a funny cat and proved to be quite ornery and definitely a little survivor often finding himself in funny predicaments and proving to all those around him he was no ordinary little kitty. As he got older and it was safe for him to play outside, he thought it was funny to chase the neighbor’s German Shepherd, Bullet, or try to outrun Mr. Peebles who would drive by every day in his little pick-up truck and drag home pieces of fried chicken that happened to be "just lying around" from some neighbor's picnic. He just thought that was the funniest thing to do and it didn’t occur to him that the dog and the truck were at least 100 times bigger than him, or that the fried chicken was not meant to be hunted and gathered by a little creature with four feet and fur! Silly cat!
And then one day was the best day of all! His people daddy, Mr. Brian, brought home a wonderful gift for little Franco. It was a purple mousy and Oh, Franco was ecstatic! “What a wonderful, wonderful prize! I have the best daddy in the world!” Franco thought to himself as he tumbled, purred and meowed and chased the little purple mouse doing flips and triple somersaults in the air. From that day on, everywhere Franco went, the purple mousy went too.
Franco loved his purple mousy and had in fact decided that it was no ordinary purple mousy. It was in fact, PURPLE POWER MOUSE! If Franco saw a challenge he wasn’t sure he could take on, he would pick up the purple power mouse in his mouth, then he would puff up his little chest, and set his determination on winning, and then he would charge head on in the fullest confidence, into whatever challenge he faced. It never seemed to faze him, however, that carrying the purple power mouse in his mouth made no difference at all. And that doing things like charging with full-body force into the front door while carrying his purple power mouse would still only result in sliding down to the floor, and not succeeding in actually knocking the door down and getting outside. It didn’t seem to faze him that carrying the purple power mouse in his mouth and running at top speed down the road, still did not help him outrun Mr. Peebles in his pick-up truck, catch the German Shepherd or help him scale the tallest tree, much less help him back down when he realized how high up in the tree he really was. He still loved his purple power mouse and no one could convince him that the purple power mouse was simply a little purple mouse. He faithfully carried it around, still believing that without it, he could not accomplish half the things he did. Funny, funny, Franco.
Eventually as Franco grew up, and he did begin to realize that the purple power mouse was in fact not powerful at all, but he loved it none the less and carried it everywhere he went – He carried it to bed, he carried it outside, and he even carried it to his food bowl when it was time to eat. He also realized that even though the mouse held no power, there was in fact something much bigger than a little purple mouse that carried him through each day and he had the ability to do all the things he was made to do and nothing more and nothing less and he knew he was truly blessed.
I hope that you enjoyed this little story about Franco and the purple power mouse. When I think of Franco and his purple power mouse, it reminds me of how easy it is to put my faith in things that have no power at all and when I do that, I definitely cannot do all the things God called me to do. I think that hearing this story reminds me that nothing here on this earth will ever match the love, the grace, and power of Jesus, Himself and it is only through Christ that I can do all things and just like Franco, I am truly blessed.
